Safety on the coastal path: dogs
In order to help the coastal path and agriculture coexist, keep your dog on a lead when passing through fields with livestock, and under control at all other times out of consideration to other path users.
There are a few short sections where dogs are not permitted to enable access to be provided alongside other land use. The following is a list of these areas:
Section 2 – Porth Trwyn to Cemaes
The section of path through Wylfa Power Station land. It is possible to avoid this section by taking the adjacent lane.
Section 7 – Beaumaris to Llanfairpwll
The section of path just beyond Menai Bridge through fields adjacent to the Menai Strait all the way to Coed y Môr next to the Britannia Bridge. It is possible to avoid this section by following the pavement along the main road.
One of the main issues landholders have identified as being a deterrent to opening up new coastal access is irresponsible dog owners allowing sheep worrying. If the coastal path is to become more complete, then responsible use of the existing path is a must. Please do your bit.
Conversely you may encounter the odd farm dog along the coastal path, but their bark is often worse than their bite. Carry a stick if you are nervous, or consider carrying an ultra-sound dog deterrent.
